Izzy Van Doren welcomes us to That's the Spirit the first ever IVDPW sponsored mystery show. Izzy promises violence, mayhem, and the debut of her very own tournament. The Chicagoland Wrestling Classic. 8 women. 1 night. 1 champion. She ushers us down to ringside for the first contest of the opening round.
- Things are looking hopeful for Savannah as she catches Layton with a superkick as she was charging in for an attack. She’s takes Layton up and over with a German suplex to follow. Savannah hoists Layton’s body up for the Brainfreeze, but Layton reverses it into a stunner! Savannah is left… well.. Stunned as she staggers in the center of the ring. Layton looks back up at her opponent and has to seize the opportunity now. Layton handsprings into the ropes and comes back and connects with the cutter! Strange Phenomena lays out Savannah Sunshine in the center of the ring. Layton with the cover, 1! 2! 3!!
- Meanwhile, Igarashi and Garamunde have invaded the commentary perch. Garamunde teeters on falling off. Igarashi runs towards him, but almost flies off himself! Finally, it’s a tackle from Babatunde that sends both men careening off the perch and through a number of tables below. Rothburn is in the ring and in control as he peppers Ozawa with strikes to the scarred forehead. Brooks stops the beating because I guess Ozawa did save her life earlier. Brooks and Ozawa form a small partnership but Ozawa quickly cracks her across the back with a kendo stick shot. Soon Ozzy rises from the depths and grabs Ozawa by the neck and hoists him up. Ozawa breaks free with a shot from the kendo stick to the head. Ozawa lands on the apron, but OZZAR doesn’t let up. She hoists Ozawa up and sends him flying off the apron with a Life Ender powerbomb through a flaming table!!
- Rothburn are the two standing right now and they’re having a legit wrestling match. The two are trading moves back and forth. Suplex after suplex. Move after move. Brooks catches Rothburn off guard with a bridging tiger suplex! 1! 2! Rothburn gets the shoulder up. OZZAR is back in the ring and is focused on running over both her opponents. Rothburn gets taken out with a big lariat, but OZZAR doesn't see Brooks anywhere in sight. Ozzy turns and catches a chair thrown at her, Brooks connects with the Shatter knee off the top rope clattering the chair across OZZAR's face. Brooks crawls into the cover. 1! 2! 3!
Tamsin goes for a clothesline, but Carlson counters after hooking the arm, and dropping Tamsin face first into her knee. Tamsin answers with a spinning kick to the midsection followed by a DDT. Tamsin shoots the half and covers. 1! 2! Kickout by Genie!
Tamsin doubles over Genie once more, and looks like this may be the end. Tamsin off the ropes, going for the SixxShooter knees. Carlson slides out of the way. Tamsin lands on the mat knees first. Genie from behind! #BOWDOWN!!! Genie crawls into the cover. 1! 2! 3!
Healy spent a bulk of the time targeting any limb she could get a hand on. Healy draped a Layton's leg across the bottom rope. She jumped and attempted a stomp, but Layton narrowly avoided it. Healy crawls back over to close the distance but catches a kick to the side of the head. Healy is dazed allowing Layton to get back to a vertical base, Healy recovers and connects with a chop that echoes around the venue. Layton falls back into the ropes. Layton with the rebound, she ducks another chop from Healy and connects with a headbutt to the jaw. Healy is staggered again. Healy closes the gap again, but Layton answers with a knee. Healy with a big boot, misses, Layton with a thrust kick to the midsection, up kick into the chest, and ending the strike sequence with a discus elbow. Layton climbs to the top, slowly due to her bad leg, but Healy catches her and biels her by the hair from the top rope to the mat. Layton gets to her feet and eats a big boot from Healy. Cover, 1! 2! Kickout from Layton.

Layton catches her with a enzuigiri followed by a poisoned frankensteiner! Healy is out! Layton charges with Eat the Music! The knee knocks out Healy. 1! 2! 3!
Absolutely terrific mat wrestling segment to kick off, the urgency and smoothness in the transitions and limb work. Each man trading hold for hold, and when each man looked to have a submission locked in, the other would find a way to the ropes. Soon enough however, Urigawa goads Thoreau into his game of a stiff slugfest, and boy did he ever bring it. Thoreau and Urigawa trading the stiffest chops ever heard, leaving each man's chest red and almost bruised. Thoreau broke through with repeated kicks to the chest that staggered Urigawa. Thoreau charged up for a big one, but Urigawa caught it and Saito suplexed his opponent. Urigawa began to focus on the arm and shoulder with an arm wringer and a knee drop, but Thoreau fought his way back up. Nik breaks free and peppers Kai with body shots. Thoreau with a stiff kick to the side, followed by an overhand chop to the jaw. Urigawa responds with a series of European uppercuts and an overhand chop of his own. The two create some distance, but both get taken down as they boot each other at the same time. Each man's foot is on the other, technically that's a cover so. 1! 2! Kickout from both men.
These two waged all out war in a shooter slug fest. Urigawa gets the upper hand for a moment as he doubles over Thoreau with a sole kick to the midsection. Urigawa gives Thoreau the thumbs up, thumbs down and centers himself. Urigawa goes for the axe kick. It connects! Thoreau FIGHTING SPIRITS THE FUCK BACK UP and lifts Urigawa up in a fireman's carry and drops him across his knees. Thoreau connects with the Cardiac Unrest and crawls into the cover. 1! 2! 3! Thoreau stumbles up to his feet, as does Urigawa. The two of them look at each other and nod in a show of silent respect after beating the tar out of each other.
Hayden slowly gets to his feet after this aerial assault, but Izumi is there with a kick to the gut and a snap suplex. Izumi motions to the top rope and starts to climb, he's going for a moonsault, but Hayden rolls out of the way and Izumi lands on his feet. Hayden clobbers Izumi with a lariat that turns him inside out. Hayden with a cover. 1! 2! Izumi gets the shoulder up. Hayden falls back into the corner, perhaps going for another clothesline. Izumi staggers up to his feet, Hayden charges but gets caught with a body scissors as Izumi transitions into a Boston Crab. Hayden is in it for a long time before he can crawl to the ropes. Hayden's up to his feet but when Izumi goes for an attack Hayden catches him with a Michinoku driver in the center of the ring.
Hayden signals for the end as he hooks the brainbuster, but Izumi stuffs it each time. Izumi breaks free and goes for the Poison Mist, but Hayden ducks it. Izumi mists the referee. Hayden hits the brainbuster! Hayden with the cover 1! 2! 3! 4! 5! The referee is down! Hayden sighs in frustration holding his head as he tries to revive the referee and get some water to flush out his eyes. Hayden returns his attention to Izumi who connects with a shot right between the eyes with a kendo stick. A new referee comes in as the old one is ushered away. Hayden and Izumi are back up to their feet, Izumi with the O'Connor Roll. 1! 2! Hayden reverses, 1! 2! Izumi kicks out, but Hayden drops down and locks in the Limitless Lock. The Crossface Chickenwing is locked in in the center of the ring. Izumi can barely hold on and taps out.

Carlson goes for a grapple, but Layton ducks down, goes around and floats into a sunset pin. 1! 2! Layton falls back into the corner, Carlson charges, Layton gets the boots up, Carlson tosses them to the side, but Layton comes back in with a kick to the side of the head. Carlson stumbles away, creating some distance, Layton closes it and connects with a slingblade! Layton into the cover. 1! 2! Carlson kicks out. Both women are up on their feet as Layton lays in a forearm. Carlson responds with one of her own. Then the two start blasting each other with stiff strikes. Layton with an Irish whip, Carlson holds on, Layton charges but gets hoisted up by Carlson in an Alabama slam, but her back gives out letting Layton slip out. Layton up to her feet, but Carlson connects with a Pele kick! Layton falls to the mat like a freshly chopped tree. 1! 2! Layton gets the shoulder up!! Carlson looks at the ref in shock.
Layton rolls to the outside for some breathing room, Carlson follows her out. Layton goes to shove Carlson into the barricade, but Carlson reverses it and tosses Layton into it! Carlson tosses Layton into the ring. Carlson slides in behind her, Carlson goes for the Stiletto Kiss, but Layton moves out of the way. Layton with a backstabber! Carlson writhes in pain on the mat. Layton slowly gets to her feet. Carlson throws a clothesline, but Layton ducks it, off the ropes, Eat the Music. Layton almost goes for the cover, but she looks back at the turnbuckle. She looks at Genie and slowly nods. Layton limps over to the corner and starts to ascend. Layton begs Carlson to get to her feet, Carlson stumbles up, Layton leaps off but Carlson catches her with a backstabber of her own, float over into the crossface!! Layton has nowhere to go as she’s trying to claw her way to the ropes! Layton tries everything to break free but Carlson keeps wrenching back. Layton’s hand comes up, and with one final deep wrench Layton taps out!
Genie releases the hold as confetti falls from the ceiling. Carlson falls back realizing what she's overcome and tears of joy start to emerge. Cut to Genie's husband, Elijah, and their children cheering her on from the crowd. Carlson slowly gets to her feet and is presented with the trophy from Izzy Van Doren personally. We end the show with the Carlson family standing in the center of the ring.
Rebekah Stevenson vs Skye Healy
- The bell rings and this match begins with Stevenson distracted as she’s waving at Bobby Larson sitting at ringside. Stevenson removes her tiara and places it on the ground. She turns just in time for Healy’s boot to connect with her face! Healy is hot out of the gate with a Skye Scraper! Stevenson is out cold as Healy tosses her out of the corner. Stevenson stumbles up to her feet as Healy connects with another big boot aimed at the head. Stevenson’s head ricochets off the mat as she’s barely understood what’s hit her. Stevenson rises, very shaken. She throws a swing, but Healy slides back out of the way causing Stevenson to fall flat on her face. Healy paces around her as Stevenson stirs. Healy throws her hands up and grabs her opponent and drops her with the Skyefall for the quick, decisive win.
Fallon Lockhart vs Genie Carlson
- The match begins similarly to the last, Fallon extremely excited to be in front of the crowd while Genie remains focused in the opposite corner. It’s a hard fought match as Genie tried to just grab onto the quicker Fallon for more than a few seconds. Ultimately, Lockhart goes for a sunset flip, but Genie counters it by sitting down and hooking the legs deep, pinning her shoulders to the mat. The referee counts 3 and that’s all she wrote for this opening round. Fallon shrugs her shoulders and says “I’ll do better next time”. What a true babyface.Emery Layton vs Savannah Sunshine
- Break from the pattern as Layton and Savannah begin their match with the old whirlpool technique of circling around the ring. Layton, the veteran with more experience, takes down Savannah easily putting her face first into the mat. Layton pops up to her feet. Arrogantly, she challenges Savannah to punch her before piefacing her and shoving her to the mat again. Savannah rises another slap from Layton. Savannah turns again and spears Layton, pushing her back into the corner. Savannah lays into Layton with strike after strike as her opponent is trapped in the corner. - You might be experiencing deja vu. Well that’s because this is the second time these two have entered the ring together. IVDPW3 saw their first encounter and that match was just as “balls to the wall” crazy as this one. Tamsin throwing hands, St Clair throwing her ass. Somewhere Trey Cole is watching with his eyes glued to the TV. It was a good fight. A callback to their last encounter as Sydney goes for another European uppercut, but Tamsin catches it! Tamsin struggles for a backslide, but St Clair fights it! St Clair with a backslide of her own! 1! 2! Tamsin kicks out! St Clair off the ropes, but misses with her hip attack as Tamsin narrowly sidesteps her. Tamsin hits the Veto charging headbutt right into St Clair’s chest and takes her out! 1! 2! 3!6 Person Battle Royal
- One by one they file out from behind the curtain: OZZAR, a giant mountain woman that looks mean as shit and would probably rip you in half. Ian Rothburn, a very “enlightened” guy. Very philosophical. Not too many wrestlers like that. Kira Brooks, admittedly the most normal person in this. What’s she doing here? Babatunde Garamunde, he owns a grape farm and likes Elijah Carlson. Then finally, both members of SHITNUTZ, Goro Ozawa and SEXY Igarashi. And what’s better, they bring weapons!! They’re all over the fucking place here. Ozawa takes Rothburn out of the ring with a tackle. Igarashi and Garamunde brawl throughout the crowd. Which leaves… oh no... Kira rushes in against Ozzy with clubbing blows, but they don’t phase the monstrous woman. Ozzy simply shoves Brooks back and roars. Kira comes back in, swinging wildly with a kendo stick. WHACK. WHACK. WHACK. OZZAR shrugs each shot off and catches one under her arm. Ozzy has Brooks goozled and lifts her into the air. Tamsin slides behind and takes Carlson up and down, face first into the mat. Carlson fights her way back up to her feet, a back elbow releases Tamsin's grip. Carlson off the ropes, and takes Tamsin down with a crucifix pin. 1! Tamsin rolls out. Carlson gets to her feet quickly, sprinting into the ropes and coming back with a fucking crazy clothesline that flattens Tamsin. Before Carlson can cover though, Tamsin rolls out of the ring. Carlson follows her out, but Tamsin's suckered her in and shoves her back first into the barricade. Thoreau grabs a microphone and makes the challenge to anyone that thinks they can take him out to get out to the ring right now. Kai Urigawa answers the open challenge. It’s a tribute call back to the old FIW days. Full Intensity Wrestling. Even Hayden broke out the old gear for this one. And that’s definitely what was on display here tonight. These locked horns and were backing each other into their respective corners, back and forth, trying to show each other who was the strongest. Izumi used his quickness to get an upperhand early on as he catches Hayden with a sunset flip for a quick 2 count. Izumi transitions into a Muta lock, but Hayden grabs the rope. Hayden gets free and whips Izumi into the corner, but Izumi catches Hayden with a headscissors that causes the Limitless trainer to roll out of the ring. Layton slowly gets to her feet. Carlson throws a clothesline, but Layton ducks it, off the ropes, Eat the Music. Layton almost goes for the cover, but she looks back at the turnbuckle. She looks at Genie and slowly nods. Layton limps over to the corner and starts to ascend. Layton begs Carlson to get to her feet, Carlson stumbles up, Layton leaps off but Carlson catches her with a backstabber of her own, float over into the crossface!! Layton has nowhere to go as she’s trying to claw her way to the ropes! Layton tries everything to break free but Carlson keeps wrenching back. Layton’s hand comes up, and with one final deep wrench Layton taps out!
Genie releases the hold as confetti falls from the ceiling. Carlson falls back realizing what she's overcome and tears of joy start to emerge. Cut to Genie's husband, Elijah, and their children cheering her on from the crowd. Carlson slowly gets to her feet and is presented with the trophy from Izzy Van Doren personally. We end the show with the Carlson family standing in the center of the ring.
